Formed in 2001, Surescripts has evolved into the nation’s most comprehensive clinical network
Surescripts is the result of a 2008 merger between the country's two leading health information networks: RxHub and Surescripts. RxHub was founded in 2001 by the nation's three largest PBMs - CVS Caremark Corporation, Express Scripts, Inc. and Medco Health Solutions, Inc. Surescripts was also formed in 2001 by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) and the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA).
A little over a decade ago, we had a vision to enable e-prescribing in America.
Since then, both the healthcare industry and federal government recognized a critical need for a national health information network to facilitate secure electronic communication between healthcare providers. The lack of such a network has limited the potential for providers to electronically exchange clinical information to improve the quality of patient care.
In response to this need, Surescripts expanded its scope to enable healthcare providers, pharmacists, PBMs, EHRs, HIEs, and IDNs to electronically exchange clinical messages within a care community and across the country. The Surescripts network is supported by the company’s strategic investment in Kryptiq, one of the nation's leading developers of technology applications that enable providers, their colleagues and patients to securely share clinical information.
With over a decade of experience in e-prescribing, we are leveraging our network and expertise to enable connected care and facilitate health information exchange.
