PAUL, Minn. - Feb. 24, 2010 - Surescripts, The Nation's E-Prescription Network™, today announced a contribution to Paper Kills 2.0, the sequel to the award-winning book Paper Kills: Transforming Health and Healthcare with Information Technology. In chapter 10 of the new book, Kate Berry, senior vice president of market development for Surescripts and executive director of the Center for Improving Medication Management, provides an in depth review and analysis of electronic prescribing and its central role in the nation's move away from paper-based to digital health care.

Berry's chapter, titled "Paperless Prescriptions: The E-Prescribing Revolution to Improve Healthcare Quality and Lower Costs," focuses on the inherent value in adopting an electronic approach to prescriptions. Berry explores specific stakeholder benefits to implementing electronic prescribing, as well as progress made thus far. "The continuing growth and evolution of electronic prescribing adoption is a huge leap forward and will help transform health care into a safer, more cost-effective 21st-century model and we're excited about the progress to come."

"The move to paperless healthcare is a move to lower cost, higher quality healthcare," said Newt Gingrich, founder, Center for Health Transformation. "Paper Kills 2.0 offers an in-depth review of how information technology is transforming our current healthcare system, and few examples are better than electronic prescribing. Kate Berry's analysis of where e-prescribing is today and where it is headed tomorrow offers an insightful view into a national success story that can serve as a model for the nation's health IT strategy overall."
