The Surescripts Network Alliance® includes nearly all electronic health records (EHR) vendors, pharmacy benefit managers, pharmacies and clinicians—plus health plans, long-term and post-acute care organizations, analytics vendors and specialty pharmacy organizations.
In 2023, we connected 2.14 million unique healthcare professionals and provider organizations. They exchanged intelligence at the scale of 23.8 billion network transactions, replacing time-consuming faxes and phone calls with easy, electronic access to information for more than 99% of the U.S. population. Each transaction started with our proprietary matching algorithm, which identified the right patient within the Surescripts Master Patient Index in an average of 48 milliseconds.
All the while, Surescripts partnered with leaders across the Network Alliance to advance data accuracy and performance for the benefit of all.

Collaborating for data quality gains
Even minor data gaps or enhancements in one part of a nationwide network can have far-reaching consequences. To ensure that the right information reaches the right healthcare professional at the right time, it’s necessary to continually monitor and improve data quality.
Surescripts measures data quality across the network with the Quality Index Score. In 2023, we updated the Quality Index Score formula with measures focused on decreasing RxChange response times, reducing unnecessary notes in e-prescriptions and through the use of Structured & Codified Sig, standardizing patient directions for greater clarity, workflow efficiency and patient safety.
