ARLINGTON, Va. – March 20, 2015 – Surescripts, the nation’s largest health information network, recognized 24 health systems and technology vendors for their commitment to ongoing data quality improvements in e-prescribing with the 2014 White Coat of Quality Award.  Established in 2010 as part of Surescripts’ Quality Management Program, the White Coat of Quality Award commends organizations that are actively focused on improving e-prescribing accuracy, completeness and safety.  Today, more than half of all prescriptions are delivered electronically, with 73 percent of all office-based physicians and 95 percent of pharmacies having adopted the technology.

“As e-prescribing has become nearly ubiquitous, Surescripts has turned our focus from driving adoption to optimizing the process by advancing quality improvements and driving value for patients and providers,” said Ajit Dhavle, Pharm.D, MBA, Vice President of Clinical Quality at Surescripts.  “We are honored to recognize these organizations for their leadership and persistence in advancing e-prescribing quality industry-wide.  Together, we can realize greater value by working collaboratively and leveraging technology to improve e-prescribing and connect the entire healthcare ecosystem.”

Electronic prescribing has a direct impact on the quality of care by increasing accuracy, reducing costs and saving time for doctors, pharmacists and patients.  With more than one billion prescriptions sent electronically over the Surescripts network each year, the impact on the quality and cost of care is significant.  Surescripts is dedicated to supporting customers through ongoing training on industry best practices in clinical quality to ultimately deliver the best care possible.

This year’s recipients met stringent requirements, including measurement and reporting of e-prescription content quality, implementation of software updates and ongoing end-user training on how to best use their e-prescribing system.  Of this year’s recipients, 22 have been recognized with the award in the past.  The recipients of the Surescripts 2014 White Coat of Quality Award include:
