Providers Nationwide Now Have Access to National Record Locator Service
to Deliver Higher Quality Care

ARLINGTON, Va. – February 16, 2017Surescripts, the nation’s leading health information network, continues to expand nationwide interoperability via its National Record Locator Service (NRLS) with electronic health records (EHR) software vendors Aprima Medical Software, eClinicalWorks and NextGen Healthcare. With NRLS, Aprima, eClinicalWorks and NextGen Healthcare can provide care teams with more complete patient medical histories and decrease the burden on administrative staff who currently respond to records requests manually.

“We are thrilled that Aprima, eClinicalWorks and NextGen have joined Surescripts in our quest to achieve interoperability across the U.S. healthcare system,” said Tom Skelton, Chief Executive Officer of Surescripts. “NRLS is a powerful extension of their EHR capabilities that gives providers real-time, nationwide access to patients’ health histories across care settings, so they can reap the rewards of true healthcare connectivity.”

NRLS currently provides access to nearly 230 million patients and more than four billion interactions between those patients and their care teams—20 times more coverage than any other record locator service on the market. It allows users to quickly and efficiently identify and share records within their existing EHR workflows to deliver more informed care. Through Surescripts’ unique network capabilities and access to high quality data, NRLS enables more sophisticated and valuable clinical information exchange.

“With Surescripts’ National Record Locator Service, we are empowering clinicians to provide the highest quality care possible,” said Girish Navani, CEO and cofounder of eClinicalWorks. “Our customers now have the ability to seamlessly exchange health information and provide access to critical patient data whenever and wherever they need it.”

In addition to locating and exchanging patient records, NRLS is a faster and easier way to respond to clinical data requests. NRLS automatically queries and retrieves documents from the EHR system so clinical support staff can reduce the time they spend manually responding to requests and focus on delivering quality care to their patients.

“We are excited to be able to provide meaningful interoperability that ensures our clients can put timely, relevant and correct patient health information in front of the right care team," said Rusty Frantz, president and CEO of NextGen Healthcare. "This partnership is a great example of NextGen's drive to enable our industry to achieve both great patient outcomes and financial success in the emerging world of value-based healthcare."

NRLS operates within the nationwide Carequality Interoperability Framework that leverages a common set of legal, technical and policy rules for data sharing across technology platforms and networks. Aprima joins NRLS as a Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) partner, expanding the interfaces available for NRLS and ultimately increasing the breadth of the Surescripts network.

“As a FHIR partner for Surescripts National Record Locator Service, we are supporting the increasing interoperability needs of our customers,” said Michael Nissenbaum, president and CEO of Aprima Medical Software. “We will be able to provide our customers with unparalleled connectivity that bridges between FHIR and Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) protocols, giving them the ability to share even more critical patient data nationwide.”
