COMBINED ACCESS TO BENEFIT DATA FOR NEARLY ALL U.S. PATIENTS WILL IMPROVE HEALTH OUTCOMES AND INCREASE EFFICIENCY

ARLINGTON, Va. – April 30, 2015 – Surescripts, the nation’s largest health information network, is working collaboratively with PDR, LLC (PDR®), a leading provider of drug information, prescriber communications, and behavior-based patient and consumer health information, to expand the coverage of CompletEPA®, the industry’s leading, fully electronic prior authorization solution. Between Surescripts’ direct connections with all of the nation’s largest pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) and PDR’s extensive library of electronic prior authorization forms, CompletEPA will have the capability to process benefit data for nearly 100 percent of patients in the United States.

As an extension of Surescripts’ industry leading electronic prescribing technology, CompletEPA is integrated in existing electronic health record (EHR) software and operates in real time, without the use of web portals, phone calls or faxes. This added electronic prescribing functionality leverages Surescripts’ extensive network connections to provide a faster and more streamlined electronic prior authorization process.

“CompletEPA enhances the value of the electronic prior authorization process for doctors and patients alike,” said Mike Pritts, Executive Vice President of Product Innovation at Surescripts.  “With greater nationwide patient coverage through PDR, CompletEPA can improve patient health outcomes, save doctor’s offices time and money, and create a more efficient healthcare system.”

Manual prior authorization is an administrative burden that delays communication between prescribers and PBMs, causing patients to have to wait many days before prescriptions can be filled. CompletEPA provides a fully electronic solution integrated into the existing electronic prescribing workflow to allow healthcare providers to complete the prior authorization process accurately and efficiently, in many cases before the patient leaves the office.

“PDR is committed to delivering new healthcare innovations to provide patients, prescribers, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers easy and timely access to relevant health information,” said Mark Heinold, CEO of PDR. “Our services, paired with Surescripts’ existing electronic prior authorization capability, will help more patients get the medications they need sooner.”

In addition to the collaboration with PDR, Surescripts has direct connections with most leading technology vendors, making CompletEPA available to more than 290,000 physicians nationwide.
