ARLINGTON, Va. – June 5, 2017 – Surescripts, the nation’s leading health information network, has introduced CompletEPA QuickStart™, a free website specifically designed to benefit providers who do not yet have access to the CompletEPA® electronic prior authorization (ePA) solution within their electronic health record (EHR). CompletEPA QuickStart is available free to any provider to help accelerate the submission process for electronic prior authorization requests, and allows clinicians to receive medication approvals or denials in minutes or less.

“While providers still prefer an EHR-integrated electronic prior authorization solution, Surescripts understands that not all providers have that capability yet,” said Tom Skelton, Chief Executive Officer of Surescripts. “With CompletEPA QuickStart, we are meeting the needs of providers by delivering secure and efficient electronic prior authorizations for critical medications.”

Surescripts CompletEPA and CompletEPA QuickStart are designed to give clinicians and staff more time to focus on quality patient care without the administrative burden of manual prior authorizations. The benefits of CompletEPA include:

  • a 50-percent reduction in the time spent answering unnecessary prior authorization questions
  • less than one minute to receive most prior authorization approvals
  • access to 100 percent of covered lives through PBMs and payers connections.

“Previously, we found it took anywhere from 50 minutes to 73 hours to complete a medication prior authorization,” said Patrick McGill, M.D., Medical Director of Physician Informatics at Community Health Network. “With Surescripts CompletEPA, we know if a prior authorization is required and what set needs to be completed in 13 seconds or less.”

Since launching in 2015, CompletEPA’s fully integrated solution is now available through EHRs representing 75 percent of all physicians nationwide, including 100 health systems using Epic software. The service has also been deployed to 85 percent of pharmacy benefit managers across all 50 states, including Puerto Rico.

Surescripts is offering free on-site training sessions to medical practices in the Minneapolis area on June 15 and 16. During the one-hour sessions, a Surescripts representative will visit local medical practices to educate staff on the CompletEPA QuickStart functionality, get them started using the solution immediately, and answer any questions about the solution. Availability is limited, so please register online. For more information on Surescripts CompletEPA and CompletEPA QuickStart, please visit the Surescripts website.
