Season1 Ep8 n

Lee Barrett has been helping set standards for digital healthcare data management since the early ’90s. As the Executive Director and CEO of the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC), he continues to shape the industry as it embraces technology and protects itself against cyberattacks.

In the final episode of “There’s a Better Way: Smart Talk on Healthcare & Technology,” Melanie Marcus talks with Lee Barrett, a self-described health IT guru and bowtie aficionado. Lee heads EHNAC, a nonprofit standards development and accrediting body for organizations that electronically exchange healthcare data. In this role, he works on initiatives that lay the foundation for health information technology, including support and implementation of healthcare legislative mandates. Under his leadership, EHNAC also prepares healthcare organizations to better prevent and protect themselves from breaches in security.

As he’s been quoted: “It’s not a matter of if your organization will be cyberattacked—it’s a matter of when.” In fact, according to a recent Fierce Healthcare article, healthcare data breaches reached an all-time high in 2021, impacting 45 million Americans.
