Good news on the health IT front: The Surescripts Network Alliance® is serving the needs of both providers and patients by delivering prescription price transparency and patient-specific benefit information at the point of care. This breakthrough technology is available now, and it’s catching on at an impressive rate.
Since its launch last year, there has been a 40-fold increase in the number of prescribers who have used Real-Time Prescription Benefit—a total of 30 million times—to view patient-specific prescription price information, plus therapeutic alternatives, within their electronic health record (EHR).
The solution’s rapid rate of growth is driven by collaboration across the network with several EHR software vendors and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) adopting or going live with Real-Time Prescription Benefit in recent months.
EHRs representing 77 percent of U.S. prescribers have already signed on, including Allscripts, Aprima Medical Software, Cerner, eClinicalWorks, Epic, Modernizing Medicine and NextGen Healthcare.
Real-Time Prescription Benefit provides patient benefit data directly from leading PBMs and health plans, including CVS Health, DST, which was acquired by SS&C Technologies, Express Scripts and Navitus, who collectively reach 70 percent of U.S. covered lives.
It’s simple: Easing the way for patients to pick up and begin their medications makes them more likely to adhere to their treatment plans. And improved medication adherence improves the quality, safety and cost of healthcare across the board.
